THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY:

The National Assembly exercises the Country's legislative power. It is at present composed by 220 Members elected by universal, equal, direct and secret suffrage for a four-year term of office. The National Assembly is presided over by Mr. Roberto Victor de Almeida (MPLA).

MAIN DUTIES:

•  Amend the current Constitutional Law and approve the Constitution of the Republic of Angola

•  Approve laws on all matters, except those reserved by the Constitutional Law for the Government.

•  Confer legislative authorizations on the Government.

•  Approve, on the proposal of the Government, the National Plan and the General State Budget, as well as the reports on the execution of the National Plan and the General State Budget.

•  Establish and alter the political and administrative division of the country.
